Yang Hanshen Goes Off — 14 Points in the Third Quarter, Total Domination on Both Ends

WINPH Sports Recap — October 11, 2025 — In his second preseason outing, Yang Hanshen put on a breakout performance as the Portland Trail Blazers faced the Sacramento Kings.

The first half didn’t go smoothly for the Chinese rookie big man — he picked up three fouls in just four minutes and had to sit early. Understandably so, given he’s still adapting to the NBA’s pace and physicality. Still, Coach Chauncey Billups made a key adjustment mid-game by involving Yang more at the high post and around the free-throw line, a setup that fits Yang’s playmaking style perfectly. That small tweak set the stage for his second-half explosion.

Once the third quarter started, Yang found his rhythm — and never looked back. With renewed confidence and clear tactical support, he began to completely control the tempo. During one stretch, Yang drained two three-pointers and finished two strong drives at the rim for 10 straight points, firing up both his teammates and the crowd.

But the show didn’t stop there. After his scoring run, defenses started collapsing on him, freeing up open shots for his teammates. Yang responded with several smart assists and even added another basket himself — finishing the quarter with 14 points in total.

On defense, Yang was just as impactful. His presence under the rim shut down Sacramento’s interior attack, as he grabbed key rebounds and swatted away multiple attempts. He ended the night with 3 blocks, a reminder that his shot-blocking instincts are already NBA-ready.

By the final buzzer, Yang Hanshen posted 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks, marking a major step forward after a tough debut. Fans can finally exhale — this performance showed what he’s capable of when given the right system and confidence.

Coach Billups’ trust was evident, too. Not only did he design more plays through Yang, but the Blazers’ official account even posted eight highlights of him during the game — a clear sign the organization sees him as a core piece for the future.

Yang Hanshen may still be a rookie, but if this game is any indication, his ceiling looks sky-high.
